Strategic Sports’ S-460 Urban Cycling Helmet Wins 2026 Green GOOD DESIGN Award

After three decades of designing and manufacturing many of the world’s best helmets, we like to think we’re pretty good at what we do…but nothing beats having our work  recognized by independent organizations. That’s exactly what happened recently when our S-460 RMR Urban Cycling Helmet received a 2026 Green GOOD DESIGN™ Award, an international recognition honoring products that demonstrate leadership in sustainable design. The award is presented by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design.

Originally founded in Chicago in 1950 by design pioneers Eero Saarinen and Charles and Ray Eames, the GOOD DESIGN program is one of the world’s longest-running and most respected design awards. The Green GOOD DESIGN edition highlights products that demonstrate forward-thinking approaches to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

The S-460 is part of Strategic Sports’ growing Removable, Modular, Recyclable RMR platform…a design approach created to improve material recovery and support circular product lifecycles. By allowing key helmet components to be separated and recycled at the end of a product’s life, RMR represents a shift toward more responsible helmet construction without compromising performance or safety.

The platform has already earned international recognition across multiple helmet models. The S-460 RMR won a Red Dot Design Award in 2025, and just recently, Strategic’s S-482 RMR Youth eBike Helmet received a 2026 Taipei Cycle d&i Gold Award. Other RMR-based models, including the S-427,  have also been recognized in global design competitions such as the German Design Award, reinforcing the platform’s role in advancing more sustainable helmet manufacturing.

“Safety is always the priority, but sustainability must be part of the story too,” said Norman Cheng, Managing Director of Strategic Sports. “Our responsibility as a manufacturer is not only to protect riders, but also to consider the long-term impact of the products we bring into the world. RMR represents our effort to rethink how helmets are designed, assembled, and eventually recycled.”

The S-460 Urban Cycling Helmet, designed by Strategic’s own Alan Okamura, reflects that philosophy. Built for modern urban riders, the helmet integrates advanced safety features with a product architecture designed to support recyclability and responsible material use.

The Green GOOD DESIGN recognition highlights Strategic Sports’ broader commitment to advancing sustainability in helmet design and manufacturing. Through continued investment in circular design strategies, recyclable materials, and responsible production practices, we are working to help move the helmet industry toward products that deliver both world-class protection and a more sustainable future.
