The Future of Moto Helmets is Here: Strategic’s Latest Advanced Energy Management Materials for Full Face Designs
At Strategic Sports, high performance protection starts with a commitment to materials innovation. Our latest full-face helmets employ three proprietary technologies—Full Nano, Contego™, and ERT™ (Energy Reduction Technology)—to create a dynamic, full-spectrum impact management system that also results in lighter, more comfortable and lower profile helmets.
FULL NANO is our newest impact mitigating liner material, and designed to replace traditional EPS foam. Developed from a proprietary monomer infused with carbon nanotubes, it is engineered to absorb energy and rebound, rendering it capable of managing multiple impacts.
Standard EPS foams are designed for one hit; even relatively low energy impacts will compress and deform the helmet beyond further use. Full Nano continues to perform through repeated hits below a certain threshold. The result is consistent energy absorption and long-term durability for riders who push their limits on the track or trail.
CONTEGO™ forms the second pillar of our protection system. This foam features lengthened polystyrene molecules that deliver enhanced crack resistance and rebound elasticity. It offers approximately 30% greater flex tolerance before failure compared with standard EPS.
In our multi-layer impact-management system known as CONEHEAD™, the middle layer uses CONTEGO™ reinforced foam with outward-facing cone geometry. That design allows the layers to shear, decouple and redirect impact energies away from the head, mitigating both linear and rotational forces in a single structure.
By deploying CONTEGO™ within the CONEHEAD architecture, we give helmet designers greater freedom to shape advanced profiles while maintaining uncompromised protective performance.
ERT™ completes the system with advanced low-speed and rotational impact management. These patented polymer pads incorporate both a geometric structure and material composition optimized to mitigate both rotational and linear forces, addressing the real-world impacts that occur in falls and crashes.
When integrated with EPS foam liner, ERT™ delivers up to 26 percent improvement in rotational impact control and 30 percent better linear-impact performance compared with EPS alone. It’s also extremely lightweight, easy to incorporate into helmet designs and with a soft, plush feel, improves the fit, comfort and overall rider experience of any helmet.
Developing advanced helmet materials is no simple task. Many Strategic Sports materials innovations take decades to refine, and some never come to market. But the effort is worth it. Norman Cheng, Managing Director of Strategic Sports, explains, “We invest in new materials because we believe protection should evolve with the way people ride. Safety, sustainability, and innovation must move forward together.”
Strategic Sports was also the first manufacturer to bring certification-ready moto helmets meeting the new ECE 22.06 standard to market. The updated regulation added more impact points, tougher oblique-impact tests, and higher demands for shell rigidity and multi-impact performance. Meeting this standard early reflects the company’s long-standing commitment to engineering ahead of regulations rather than reacting to them.
As Cheng puts it, “The work we do is about continuous progress. Whether it’s developing new liners, incorporating recyclable materials and construction or bringing our expertise into new product categories like goggles, we see every advance as part of a larger responsibility to protect riders, support our partner brands, and reduce our environmental impact. It’s all part of our core mission: Protecting Life.”
