Strategic Sports Signs Rooftop Solar Agreement at Vietnam Factory
In Vietnam, the sun seems to be shining just a little brighter lately. In Binh Phuc, just outside of Ho Chi Minh City, Strategic Sports recently marked an important milestone with the signing ceremony to install rooftop solar power at our factory.
The ceremony reflects the continued growth of Strategic’s newest factory and our long-term commitment to building manufacturing operations that are efficient, sustainable, and designed with the future in mind.
The first phase of the rooftop solar installation is expected to generate approximately 1,449,000 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 955 metric tons of CO₂e per year, equivalent to roughly 178 tons of standard coal. The system will feed renewable energy directly into daily factory operations, supporting production while reducing reliance on grid power.
“Our approach has always been to make sustainability part of how our factories operate across our global footprint,” said Norman Cheng, Managing Director of Strategic Sports. “Solar is infrastructure. At our Vietnam facility, it is designed into the operation and provides a long-term advantage.”
The Vietnam factory is Strategic’s most recently established manufacturing site and a key element of the company’s global strategy. From its earliest planning stages, the facility was designed to efficiently integrate renewable energy systems, reflecting STG’s broader manufacturing philosophy centered on long-term performance and adaptability.
Across its global footprint, Strategic facilities already incorporate a range of sustainability measures, including solar power and reclaimed rainwater systems, with the Huizhou, China factory now fully powered by green electricity. These efforts extend into product development as well, where Strategic continues to expand its use of reclaimed and sustainably sourced materials, including recycled marine plastics, recycled EPS liners, rPET bottle-based padding systems, and other BioDome materials. Together, these initiatives reduced CO₂ output by 783,819.73 kg between 2021 and 2023 and helped enable Strategic’s award-winning, 100 percent recycled and 100 percent recyclable RMR helmet models.
“Vietnam represents the next chapter of our manufacturing footprint,” Cheng added. “As production capacity grows, it is essential that energy systems scale alongside it in a way that is sustainable, measurable, and economically sound.”
The rooftop solar installation builds on experience gained from previous solar projects across Strategic factories, applying proven design and operational principles to a new site with expanding production capacity.
As Strategic Sports continues to modernize its global manufacturing network, the Vietnam rooftop solar project reflects the company’s commitment to scaling responsibly for partners and customers while advancing renewable energy use and its goal of operating as a carbon-neutral organization by 2030 and commitment to the SBTi (Science Based Target Initiative) pathway, ensuring our efforts truly make a difference.
