Strategic Sports Releases 2024 ESG Report Highlighting Major Milestones in Sustainability and Innovation
Strategic Sports Ltd. has published its 2024 ESG report, marking a year of challenges and achievements across sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility.
“2024 was a challenging year with turnover dropping significantly below the previous year, even below the pre-Covid benchmark years of 2018 and 2019,” said Managing Director Norman Cheng. “However, in this tough business environment, Strategic Sports did not stand still—especially in the areas of sustainability.”
Cheng noted that the company’s sustainability journey was deeply personal. “This all began when I helped my daughter with her school project,” he recalled. “Afterwards, she looked up at me and asked, Dad, what are we doing at the factories to fight climate change? Even today, this question echoes in the recesses of my mind.”
In 2024, Strategic Sports completed a multi-year initiative to install solar energy systems across all of its facilities, including Dongguan and Huizhou in China, Binh Phuoc in Vietnam, and Porto in Portugal. “This was a project launched in 2018, and now all functioning facilities have solar energy,” Cheng explained. With Huizhou now fully powered by green electricity, Strategic achieved a 20% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions versus benchmark levels. The company’s climate targets have also been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as being aligned with the 1.5°C pathway.
Beyond energy, the company has focused on reducing logistics emissions by expanding local sourcing. “At our facilities in China, Vietnam, and Portugal we are sourcing within a 100-kilometer radius,” Cheng said.
Innovation was another highlight of 2024. Strategic filed 11 new utility patents, co-developed the world’s first bobsleigh-specific helmet with the China National Team, and launched a helmet recycling program with key distribution partners. “Winning the Red Dot Award was icing on the cake,” Cheng added.
On the social front, Strategic Sports introduced new child care centers at all of its China facilities, with plans to expand the program to Vietnam. “Supporting our people is just as important as supporting the planet,” Cheng emphasized.
Cheng closed by expressing gratitude to the company’s partners and stakeholders: “We recognize we accomplished these tasks only with the support of our friends and partners…you!”
