A Reason to Stop and Smell the Roses: Strategic Sports at the Decathlon Partner Club, Hanoi

There are moments in business that remind you why you do what you do. The Decathlon Partner Club, held this year in Hanoi on May 20 and 21, was one of those moments.

"I'll be honest," said Norman Cheng, Managing Director of Strategic Sports. "I was considering not going. The geopolitical environment has pulled me deep into operational matters across our three facilities, and the calendar has been relentless. But Sherry mentioned she had never been to Hanoi, and I realized I hadn't been back in over ten years. We decided we needed to go. To see the changes. To reconnect. To take a break and smell the roses."

They went. And the roses, as Norman put it, have never smelled better.

Over two full days, Strategic Sports joined partners from more than 20 nations for a program built around learning, dialogue, and Decathlon's evolving vision for growth. One theme stood out: Decathlon's approach to artificial intelligence, which they have framed as "AI Enhanced Human Intelligence." It is, as Norman observed, a remarkably thoughtful piece of terminology, one that centers the human rather than the machine.

"That framing says a lot about how Decathlon thinks," he noted. "It's not about replacing people. It's about making people better."

The event closed with something unexpected and deeply meaningful. Strategic Sports was honored on stage with a plaque recognizing ten years of partnership in the Decathlon Partner Club program.

"We have been producing for Decathlon for 28 years," said Cheng. "But these last ten, as a formal partner, have meant something different. To be recognized in that room, among partners from around the world, was something we will not forget."

For a company that has built its identity around people, relationships, and the long game, an evening like that is more than an award. It is a reminder that showing up, year after year, with consistency and care, is its own kind of strategy.

Sometimes you just need to stop. Reconnect. And let the roses do the rest.
