Groundbreaking Celebration: Strategic Sports Vietnam Phase 2
On August 15, we gathered with our global leadership team, partner, suppliers, and guests at our Strategic Sports Vietnam factory in Binh Phuc. There, under a raised tent on leveled earth we celebrated the groundbreaking of Phase 2 of Strategic Sports Vietnam. The ceremony began just before the Auspicious Hour of 5 p.m., with the sound of drums clearing away harmful spirits and a traditional Lion Dance bringing blessings of good fortune.
Strategic Sports Managing Director Norman Cheng welcomed attendees with a personal reflection on how this journey began 34 years ago. He recalled leaving the U.S. to convince his father, Dr. Philip Cheng, a retiring academic, to embark on a shared dream: building a helmet factory in China to protect riders and athletes around the world. That dream expanded to Portugal in 2013, and then onward to Vietnam in 2018, each step aligned with our vision of being the Helmetry Specialist of the World.
In Binh Phuc, that vision has taken another leap forward. Phase 1 broke ground in March 2023 and by November had already shipped its first order of Fox VCore Moto helmets. Strong demand and tariff pressures quickly outpaced Phase 1 capacity, leading to the launch of Phase 2 by October 2024, with new land acquired and design work underway.
“Phase 2 will update our Vietnam factory to better service our customers and the ASEAN markets,” Cheng said. “This will allow for faster production, higher volume and deeper technical capabilities for helmets as well as our new categories, goggles and body armor,” Cheng said.
As the celebration concluded, the skies opened and rain poured down, a symbolic blessing on the venture. For Strategic Sports, this milestone represents more than the expansion of a factory. It is the continuation of a global mission to protect lives through world-class helmets, supported by a factory network in China, Portugal, and Vietnam, designed to meet the evolving needs of our partners worldwide.
